Teen/Transition Groups (13-21)

Group sessions for teens in an environment with peers. Teens explore friendship, leisure activities, and skills needed for activities of daily living through music.

Goals may include, but are not limited to:

Cognitive-decision making, attention, working memory

Activities of daily living-using social story songs and song writing to improve independent ADL skills

Social/Emotional-cooperation, sharing, turn taking, emotion identification, self-regulation

Leisure Activities-song writing, instrument play, music recording

Therapeutic music interventions include:

Functional instrument play-playing adapted instruments with peers to improve social/emotional and cognitive skills

Musical social stories-using musical social stories to learn activities of daily living and job skills

Movement to music-music to improve social awareness and gross motor planning

Song writing-collaborating with peers to write songs to express emotion and improve cognitive skills
